Sulak Canyon, Dagestan
The Sulak Canyon is located in the central part of Dagestan. It was pierced by the stormy and deep Sulak River for several thousand years. This canyon is considered one of the deepest in the world. The depth reaches 1920 meters, which is 63 meters greater than the famous Grand Canyon in the USA. If the Sulak Canyon is filled to the top with water, the resulting reservoir will be 300 meters deeper than the greatest Lake Baikal.

The length of the canyon is 53 km. From the cliff hanging over the canyon, you can see the bright turquoise Sulak River. The rich color of the water is given by particles of limestone and blue clay flowing down from the mountains when the ice melts.
